At 100 mm and 150 mm the stone stops being a surface and starts being a unit, and grading changes completely. Nobody grades a cobble for colour, because a cobble is one of many in a field and colour variety is the point. Nobody grades it for void depth either, because a cobble that has a void in it is still structurally fine — the voids that matter are the ones right at the edge.
So the grade here is edge wear: how the arris survives being walked on, handled into place and hit by a mower. A tumbled edge removes the arris entirely, which is the durable answer and the one to specify where the cobbles will be walked on rather than looked at.
Tumbled is worth understanding before specifying it. Tumbling rounds the edges and gives an aged, soft appearance that reads as landscape rather than as paving, at the cost of a slightly larger tolerance in laying. If the project wants the pieces read individually and crisply, honed or brushed edges with a tight joint is the correct choice instead.
