An indoor stair in a material that will not chip at the arris. Filling is what makes a stone tread viable where an unfilled one would not survive a busy house.
An indoor stair in a material that will not chip at the arris. Filling is what makes a stone tread viable where an unfilled one would not survive a busy house.
An indoor stair is a hard-wearing position with no tolerance for an edge that chips, and it is dry, which is the one condition unfilled travertine handles well. Even so, filling earns its place on a stair: the packed material takes a bullnose without the arris breaking down, and the back of the piece stays dimensionally stable across years of temperature cycling between a heated hallway and a cold landing.
The finish rule here is not negotiable in a house with children or a public stair. Matte, always. A polished stone tread is smooth enough when dry to be fine and smooth enough when wet to be genuinely dangerous, and it is the one specification in this material that we will push back on rather than simply quote.
Match the treads and risers from one lot and ask for them together. In a filled material the tone match between tread and riser is good but not automatic, and a stair is exactly the place where a client notices a mismatch between two adjacent pieces.
12-20 working days to FOB for standard forms; cut-to-size and matched sets are quoted per job. Send a thickness, a quantity, a finish and a destination port and you will have an FOB quotation, usually within three working days, with no obligation on a first shipment.
