The deck rather than the edge. Slip rating has to travel with the format, or the number on the specification is about a different tile than the one that arrives.

How this one behaves on site

The deck rather than the edge. Slip rating has to travel with the format, or the number on the specification is about a different tile than the one that arrives.

The single most common specification failure on this form is the slip rating. Slip resistance is not a property of a material; it is a property of a surface texture in a format with a particular edge profile and a particular laying method. Ask a supplier for “the slip rating of travertine” and you will get a number that describes a sample they happened to test.

So ask for the rating for the format that will actually be shipped, in the finish that will actually be applied, with the laying method you intend. A brushed 300×600 laid tight is a different surface from a brushed 600×600 laid open-jointed, and the difference shows up exactly where someone is standing on it with wet feet.

Beyond that, the surround behaves like the outdoor paver form with one difference: it is wet all the time. Unfilled is fine with maintenance sealing; filled reduces the maintenance but has to survive treated water. Brushed finish, and specify the joint width, because the joint is what takes the water and the grit.

Where the deck is large, unfilled and maintained is the cheaper lifecycle. Where the client will not remember the maintenance, filled is the honest answer even though it is the one we would not choose for ourselves.

Ordering and supply

12-20 working days to FOB for standard forms; cut-to-size and matched sets are quoted per job. Send a thickness, a quantity, a finish and a destination port and you will have an FOB quotation, usually within three working days, with no obligation on a first shipment.
