The form the stone is usually bought in, and the one where the fill decision is made first: an unfilled slab is lighter than the same nominal size filled, it takes a honed or brushed finish without filler, and it will show every void the block had.

An unfilled slab is the cheapest way to put real travertine on a wall or a floor, and the cheapest way to be disappointed by it, because both outcomes come from the same thing: the voids are still open.
What the buyer is choosing is tone, not grade. Unfilled travertine from this belt runs from pale cream to a deeper almond across a single lot, and that spread is not a defect to be sorted out — it is the reason two slabs from the same block will not match perfectly on a wall. If the project needs a continuous run, say so when you ask and ask for the slabs to be selected together.
On site, the three things that go wrong are all consequences of the voids. Edges chip during handling, so the slab wants a proper A-frame and edge protection rather than being stood on its long side. Water gets into the pores and comes back out with the frost, so an unfilled slab outdoors wants a penetrating sealer on a maintenance cycle. And a polished finish on an unfilled slab polishes the voids too, which is why the standard here is honed or brushed — a polish is achievable but it is not the honest finish for this material.
